.‘There were some activities the monks and novices didn’t want us to capture in photos,’ tells the photographer. ‘It’s not good to make fun, for example. We also saw them sporting, larking about, and playing computer games [.] One evening we were invited to watch a Bollywood movie with them. Everybody was sitting cosily in front of the TV. But on this occasion too we were not allowed to take any pictures.’ [.] Nevertheless, Ilse Schrama managed to make some photos of a novice demonstrating the fighting sport Kung-fu, a sport monks are forbidden to do. ‘He enjoyed showing it to us, and it was clear that he was very good at it.’
